About the Pack Leader Sarah SchermerhornI have been an animal enthusiast since as far back as I can remember. I was raised in a small town about 25 miles west of Boston. Our cute little house was surrounded by 5 acres of woods, with the town forest as our back yard. We had always owned two dogs growing up, and they would follow me on my great adventures through the woods. He-Man and She-Ra, our lovable cats, were abandoned by their mother in an old shed on our property. Of course when we discovered them, we took them in and gave them a warm home.
For college, I ventured to a far off land called Miami, Florida, where I earned my BFA in Graphic Design. I pursued my young ambition and worked in the world of design for 7 years, but never really felt a passion for the work I was doing. In addition, I was sitting all day in a cubicle staring at a computer screen, not to mention the one-hour commute each way. I have always been a very active person, so for me this was extremely grueling, and started taking a toll on my physical and mental well-being. When I bought my first house, a fenced in backyard was of the utmost importance since I knew there was a dog in my future. That spring I found Kaya, a 7.5 week old German Shepherd who was so adorable, and quite a handful to say the least! I worked very hard training Kaya. Every weekend I focused on socializing her, bringing her to dog parks or letting her play with our nieces and nephews. Just before her first birthday, Kaya passed her Canine Good Citizens Test from the American Kennel Club. I was a very proud pet parent that day! In fact, that was the day I realized how much I loved working with animals and knew what my new venture in pursuit for happiness would be. I have since become a member of the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters (NAPPS) and began my most rewarding and Wagalicious adventure yet! From my experience as a lifelong dog and cat owner, I know precisely what other pet owners are looking for and what we can gladly provide… responsible, affectionate, active companionship. It gives me immense satisfaction to know that our clients, just in choosing a pet care service, are thinking about their pets happiness and well-being. I am moved every single day that our clients allow us into their homes to become an important part of their pets daily lives. |
